Being one of the most successful square leg chairs, this beautifully carved mahogany example is a perfect balance of naturalistic and geometric fret carving. Made in Philadelphia circa 1780 by Thomas Affleck, its design is taken directly from Chippendale's "Cabinet-makers Director".
