Penn Arm Chair

The original of this chair is believed to have been commissioned as part of a group for John Penn upon his marriage in 1766. The grandson of William Penn, he was also Governor of Pennsylvania. The chair was made by Thomas Affleck, one of Philadelphia’s most prominent cabinet makers. The shaped arm knuckle and sloping arm support are beautifully carved.
